Default Forum Playing Guide

Hey kiddos,

I'll be showing y'all how to play d&d here on the forums...

First off we're using the 3.5E rule set. Sadly, I'm not too well versed in 3.5, but it's fairly similar to 3E (which I've dm'd in before). So I suggest you read up on the classes, feats, skills, and spells, as well as your race's info. Oh! and don't miss the campaign history and stuff. It's pretty important info so you know what the hell is going on.

So lets get to the nitty gritty

There are 7 colors we'll use in forum d&d

Narration - (Color: Grey) Only used by me. Narration details events, things, and actions.

Dialog - (Color: Cyan) Dialog is speech between players and between npc's

NPC Reply - (Color: Yellow) Only used by me. NPC's reply in quote box.

Action - (Color: Magenta) Actions done by the player.

Skill check - (Color: Orange) Skill checks, stat checks etc...

Hit check - (Color: Lime) Check to hit something.

Damage - (Color: Red) Check for damage.

Spoiler:
Request or Questions- labeled as Request: or Questions: inside spoiler box

OCC - Labeled OCC: inside spoiler box

rolling dice:

type: [roll]number of dice d side of dice [/roll]

so, [roll]1d4[/roll] would roll 1 4sided die.
[roll]1d20+2[/roll] would roll 1 20sided die +2
DO NOT PUT SPACES!

So, the basic flow is this:

Dialog Rounds:
Narration followed by dialog.
  • you may ask multiple questions that are similar per post (Though sometime you might want to ask one at a time, for better follow ups)
  • you must wait for another person to post(not me) before you can post more questions (the other person may skip their questions if they wish)
  • You may use actions, however everyone gets a chance to post questions before your action is taken.
  • 1 Dialog round is when everyone post a question.
  • A dialog round will end after 1 full day of no post.

Action Round:
Narrator will give details on what is happening asking specific users to do specific things.
  • Use action color to tell what you are doing
  • I will ask you to do something such as roll
  • you will roll
  • I will give results of the action.
  • If one full day has passed in between these post, I will roll the action for you, or the action will be forfeited.
(This may be sped up a little bit depending on if I feel the game is moving too slow)

Attack Round:
Narrator will describe threat. Players will give their actions, targets and rolls in the same post
  • Narrator describes enemies
  • Post who you wish to attack, how you wish to attack them, roll to hit, and roll for damage at the same time.
  • Narrator will describe the results. If there is an error (Such as using a spell such as "light" to attack) then the Narrator will tell the PC
  • PC can post after another pc without the narrator posting (so the game does not lag with the narrator).
  • If no post are made for 1 full day, I will make your moves for you.
  • One round is when every player does one action. You may not go multiple times per round.

-=| Maybe More to Come |=-

Now for an example:

You entire the Inn of Good Homage in upper Farnore's slum district. The lobby is filled with thick smoke. The smell of urine, puke, and ale is strong. There seems to be a man passed out right next to the door. It is obviously where the smell is coming from. A man stands behind a bar counter in the back off the room, wiping a glass as he peers at you from behind his thick rimmed glasses.

Welcome to Good Homage Inn.

Aye, that's McFairly. Comes in now and then. Always leaves like that.

Strange? Here? Ha!

Do you know Duncan?

No? But if your talking about that lunatic that killed Tania, then McFairly over there might be the man to talk to.

The bartender looks at you waiting for more questions.

I walk over to McFairly's chair and kick it out from under him.
Spoiler:
(Obvious things like kicking out a chair from a drunkard, you will not have to roll for, however if this man were awake, I would tell you to roll a str check)

Where is Duncan!?

McFairly fumbles on the floor, and in a drunken stooper tries to get back up. His eyes bounce off Glanitos's face.

McFairly pulls a dagger from his cloak. And thrusts it toward Glanitos' belly. (1d20)[6] (1d4)[1]

Glanitos quickly pushes McFairly's hand aside.

McFairly ducks the swing, and attempts to tackle Glanitos

(1d20)[4]

McFairly lunges toward Glanitos, but misses, a loud thump echoes throughout the room.

The sword pierces through McFairly's shoulder. The blade enters so deep that the sword splints the floorboards. McFairly Screams in pain as blood flows from his wound.

AHHH! I don't know him, I don't know him! He yells.
