Default Yakuza

Yakuza were around in Feudal japan correct? As I've read they were formed back then, and were mostly a gang of ronin. Though most see/saw them as a 'violence group' they considered themselves to be more along the lines of Robin Hood, taking from the rich (one way or another...) and giving to the poor. I don't know if this is true, but that's what I've read...

If it is true, I'd ponder if it'd be possible for one to start a Yakuza style family in Tatsumaki...

the problem with starting a family like that would probably be that other people not aware of the history might relate more to the gangster yakuza

Well, if what he said is true, people would see them almost the same way then. A 'violence group' and a gang seem very similar to me. I am sure people back then weren't terribly fond of them either, with some exceptions perhaps. I don't think perceptions would be a problem, just don't get upset when the Togakure family is hunting you down for your deeds. XD

yeh i suppose it would be quite a cool idea... just remains to be seen how well a criminal "family" would work regarding the game system

If i am correct, i believe that the Feudal Yakuza's popularity with the towns people/commoners was based on how their leader operated things.

There were good bosses, and greedy bosses, and violent bosses, just like with anything. Some of the "good" bosses, where good i nthe sense of even with their activities, they helped out the town.

This is what i THINK i know, i cannot be sure.

If you can get people to cooperate you can do anything. But since you will not only have to face police, the army, bounty hunters and the occasional blood feud, but your own men... well let's just say you're not going to bode well unless you get a group of people you can really trust to cooperate and do as they're told.

The Yakuza, as portrayed in numerous jidai geki, appeared in the Edo Jidai. The simple reason for this was... peace throughout the country.

According to my research, which admittedly isn't very indepth, Yakuza, or what could be considered an early incarnation of the Yakuza, first appeared in the mid- to late 1600s. I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone before this, especially on a governmental level, who had latched onto the idea of extortion and protection rackets.

On the other hand, this may have been a standard of lower nobles, so that it would be hard to say if it could be considered Yakuza or not.

I'd be willing to do a little more research if people are interested in knowing more.
